Fit the work, not just the desk

Test a small desk footprint with your equipment, chair and cable connections before buying.

A narrow tabletop can save floor space while making the actual workspace harder to use.

Map the equipment

Put your laptop, keyboard, screen base and the documents you use on an existing table. Mark the proposed desk width and depth with removable tape. Try the arrangement with real cables connected; their plugs and bends need space that a clean product photograph may hide.

Use a current product page reached through the retailer’s catalogue for dimensions and load instructions. During our source check, an older IKEA Philippines MICKE product link redirected to the general catalogue. We therefore do not publish that old model’s dimensions as a currently available recommendation.

Try the full movement

Place the chair where you would sit, pull it back and open any nearby drawer or door. Check that cabinet sections do not occupy the leg space you expected. A floor plan showing only the desk rectangle misses how you enter and leave the workspace.

Check whether your intended screen stand or clamp is compatible with the tabletop material and structure. Do not treat a load figure as permission for any concentrated load or attachment. Ask the manufacturer if the exact arrangement is unclear rather than modifying the desk yourself.

Compare complete setups

Add the price of genuinely necessary cable management, storage and delivery to each option. An invented ₱3,000 desk needing ₱900 of extra storage costs more than a suitable ₱3,700 alternative that already includes it; those are arithmetic examples, not current listings.

Buy for the work you do now, with a little realistic flexibility. This is a fit and purchasing method, not an ergonomic assessment or a claim that a particular desk prevents pain.
