Estimate an appliance bill before buying the upgrade
Home & living
Use Meralco’s calculator as a scenario tool, then check the assumptions behind the result.
Compare realistic hours and model information. A calculator estimate is not a measured promise for your home.
Keep watts and kWh separate
Power in watts describes a rate of use; electricity consumption in kWh also depends on time. Meralco provides an Appliance Calculator to estimate appliance consumption and cost using inputs including your electricity bill. Use your own information where the tool allows it.
A nameplate figure or a preset appliance is not necessarily its average consumption throughout operation. Devices that cycle or vary output need more care than a simple constant-power assumption. Ask for documented model data rather than treating a salesman’s monthly-cost claim as a test result.
Run two realistic scenarios
Illustration: a device drawing a constant 100 W for five hours daily would use 15 kWh over 30 days. At an invented rate of ₱12 per kWh, that is ₱180. The rate and usage are examples, not a current Meralco tariff or a measurement of your appliance.
Repeat the calculation with the hours you expect on a busy month. Compare the difference between two suitable options, not just the estimated cost of the more efficient one. Keep purchase price, installation and maintenance separate.
Use the estimate to ask a better question
If an upgrade costs much more, ask how long a plausible saving would take to cover the difference. Include uncertainty rather than claiming that the machine will pay for itself by a fixed date. Repair needs and changing usage can overturn that simple calculation.
Do not open electrical equipment or alter wiring to investigate consumption. Use qualified help for installation or faults. Our recommendation is to retain the input assumptions with the quote so you can compare offers honestly; we have not tested, ranked or endorsed a model.
